India’s Bio-Leap: ₹1,500 Crore Boost to Biomedical Future

Dr. Jitendra Singh has officially launched Phase-III of the Biomedical Research Career Programme (BRCP), a strategic investment designed to advance biomedical research and human capital in science. The initiative is backed by a ₹1,000 crore contribution from the Department of Biotechnology and ₹500 crore from the London-based Wellcome Trust.

Emphasizing biotechnology as a pillar of the modern knowledge economy, Dr. Singh noted India’s remarkable economic trajectory: the national bioeconomy has grown nearly twenty-fold since 2014, currently exceeding USD 195 billion with a target of USD 300 billion by 2030. This program is set to further empower India's 12,000+ biotech startups and solidify the nation's status as a global hub for scientific advancement and vaccine production.
